Biblical Teaching

We believe that the Bible is God's perfect and unfailing word. For this reason, our teachers seek to understand the meaning of a text as it was intended by the original author to his original audience. They then draw conclusions on what that passage of Scripture has to say on a particular issue so that its original meaning can be discerned by Harbor attendees.

In short, our teachers attempt to use a thoroughly text-driven approach to teaching. In doing so, they teach through one book at a time… chapter by chapter and verse by verse, to understand the context and intentions of the writer as well as how the first recipients would have understood it.

All in all, Harbor seeks to honor God’s word by holding it in high regard and making it the centerpiece of our proclamation of the gospel, the good news of Christ!

Authentic Community

We believe God's people, the church, should display a genuine love and affection for one another. God said that the world would know we are his by the way we love one another (John 13:35). We were created in the image of a communal God, therefore we naturally desire community. At Harbor, we encourage authentic, biblical community through discussion of God's Word, confession, encouragement, and challenging one another to become more like Christ in our daily lives. We expect the church to be a place where people can be honest about who they are and changed by the Word of God. One way that we seek to foster this community is through community groups. Family Discipleship

Harbor practices a family equipping model of discipleship. Our goal as the church is not to replace the parents as the primary faith influencer, but to help parents be the primary faith influencers of their children. Although the primary weight of family discipleship falls on the shoulders of the parents, we also believe family discipleship is a church wide endeavor. Family discipleship is the family of God (the church) coming together to teach, equip, and train the younger generations, alongside the parents. Therefore, each Sunday Harbor Kids will be committed to praying for, evangelizing, and discipling our kids in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Missions

We believe that missions is God’s people taking God’s message to God’s world for God’s glory. In looking at passages like Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8, we believe that it is our responsibility to both personally and corporately give our time, gifts, and resources to seeing the gospel spread into all the world.
